Now I can provide an update: Having had the chance to scan both mounted and unmounted slides, I think I have decided to go with mounted slides in the future Here's why: One of my big concerns was the claim that unmounted strips of slide film sit flatter in the scanner than the mounted slides, and thus make it easier to get a well focused scan

Checking my notes, 41 pistols had replacement slides of which 34 had post-1945 mfg slides (most commonly Cage code number 53397, FSN number 7790314, or, no visible stamp marks), 2 were 1938-1943 mfg replacement slides (marked US MODEL 1911 A1 US ARMY), and 5 were Colt mfg commercial civilian slides (likely series 70 type)

I have also used the Slide Printer out of Denver Most of their business is from people outside of Denver They do excellent work I just received 8x10's made directly from 6x7 Velvia slides They are extremely sharp and have very good color saturation and tone!! They just started offering direct prints from slides on "Fuji Crystal Archive" paper
