Is there any official guide on how to backup proxmox VE itself? My main concern is the amount of work that I have put in to make the current setup work, e g GPU passthrough etc If that breaks due to updates etc, I would like to have a way to quickly revert back to the last known working

Each backup you make via Proxmox directly (vzdump) takes the same amount of space Say your lxc takes 4GB total you backup it, that's 4GB of backup You backup it again (since you presumably keep several backups), and that's another 4 entire GB it's gonna take on the drive

There is no easy way to backup a PVE PBS host yet But you can use the proxmox-backup-client to backup any file folder block device you want So you can use that to backup the whole system disk or just some config file folders But you then of cause need to know what to back up and how to use the client in CLI
